The Houston Dynamo overtook the Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference with a 1-0 win at PPL Park, potentially leaving the Union out of the playoff spots.
The first half was a largely aerial affair, as Philadelphia launched 16 crosses into Houston's area, with the visitors responding with four. Neither team put a single shot on target, apart from a Keon Daniel free kick goal that was disallowed when Amobi Okugo was called offside.
The Dynamo took the lead in the 52nd minute. Ricardo Clark put himself on the end of Brad Davis' free kick to demonstrate correct long ball scoring technique to Philadelphia.
The loss marks Philadelphia's fifth straight game without a win, and snaps a four-game winless skid for Houston.
