CHESTER, Pa -- D.C. United earned a 1-0 win against the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park. Lionard Pajoy, who was traded to D.C. from Philadelphia midseason, scored the game's lone goal in the second half.
The first half was not a spectacle to remember, as Philadelphia had the better of the chances, but mostly due to D.C. United mistakes at the back. Brandon McDonald and Bill Hamid especially looked shaky giving the Union opportunities they didn't convert.
A dull game sprang to life in the 66th minute when Maicon Santos played a fantastic cross-field ball to Chris Pontius who collected in the box, touched around a defender, and chipped across to former Union striker Lionard Pajoy. The Colombian collected on his chest before firing a half-volley home.
With 12 minutes left, the Union inserted Freddy Adu into the match in the hopes of sparking a comeback, but it wasn't to be as D.C. Picked up a huge win in its playoff chase, moving two points ahead of Columbus and one point ahead of Houston into the fourth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
