Philadelphia sends Jack McInerney to Montreal Impact for Andrew Wenger

Two MLS squads swapped young forwards, with Jack McInerney heading to the Montreal Impact in exchange for Andrew Wenger, the teams announced Friday.

Wenger is a former no. 1 overall pick, joining the Impact in the 2012 MLS Superdraft. Last season, the Pennsylvania native scored one league goal in 24 appearances after scoring four in hs rookie year. This year, the 23-year-old started the Impact's first three games, with the club's leading scorer Marco Di Viao suspended but couldn't get on the mark.

McInerney, who is now in his fifth MLS season, started 2013 with a shot, earning a call-up to the United States Gold Cup roster, but he didn't play in that competition and his form cooled in the second half of the year. He finished 2013 with a dozen goals in 31 games and has scored once for the Union this season.

“Jack was an important member of our squad over the past four years, but the reality is our team has evolved and this deal puts our team in a better overall position long-term," Philadelphia manager John Hackworth said in a news release.

"Andrew is a Pennsylvania native that we are familiar with from his time as a youth and Reading United player and he will be a great addition to our team as both a person and a player going forward.”
