Just pay the man. Lin is the most important player on the Knicks right now. He will be a restricted free agent this summer. That means the Knicks can match any offer Lin receives. And they better. Lin is the future of the Knicks.
Lin vs. Carmelo Anthony
Assuming Lin does re-sign with the Knicks, he will probably make one third of what Carmelo Anthony makes. But that doesn't mean that Anthony is three times more valuable than Lin. I understand Anthony is a top scorer in the NBA. I know he is one of the most clutch players in the league. But compare Anthony's body of work with the Knicks to Lin's. While Anthony has had some great games, Lin consistently made the players around him better. Lin gave fans a glimpse of how powerful a team, playing like a team, can be. Nobody on the Knicks does this better than Lin.
Help Wanted: Point Guards
The Knicks have no depth at the point guard position. They lost both Iman Shumpert and Baron Davis to knee injuries in the 2012 NBA Playoffs. Shumpert is young, so he will return. But the 33-year-old Davis may never play again. The Knicks can't mess around at this position. They must bring Lin back.
Lin Can Do It All
Lin can do practically anything on the court. He can score in a variety of ways. He can get his own shot. He can set up his teammates for open looks. He can defend. And he is fearless. Lin seemed to play even better when the pressure was on. How could the Knicks let him go?
He Is a Cash Cow
In just a short time with the Knicks, Lin captured the entire city of New York. He boosted revenues for Madison Square Garden. He became a league-wide sensation and international phenomenon. Lin's jersey was the top-selling jersey in the 2011-2012 NBA Regular Season. In business, money talks. And Lin would generate plenty of it in New York.
With any luck, Lin will be in a Knicks uniform next season. And you can be part of the reason why.
