Costs for legal fees, consultants and public relations companies employed by Penn State to deal with the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal have reached close to $17 million, according to the school. The school said it has spent nearly $16.8 million through June 30, according to multiple reports, $10 million of which went to seven companies for "investigation and crisis communications." Another $4 million went for legal services and defense. Penn State still faces lawsuits from Sandusky's accusers, and was hit with a $60 million fine in July.
