After the way he has been bowling the last two months across the pond, Mike Fagan might want to consider moving to Europe.
The PBA star captured his second title in Europe this year by winning the Track Dream Bowl Palace Open on April 29 in Munich, Germany. Fagan got past fellow American and PBA Star Sean Rash 502 - 425 in the semi-final round before going on to defeat Colombia's Clara Guerrero 469 - 446 in the two-game title match.
This past March Fagan also won the Brunswick Euro Challenge in Paris, France. That victory also earned him a PBA Tour title due to the new agreement between the WTBA (World Tenpin Bowling Association) and the PBA.
The 2011-12 PBA Tour season was a dream season for Mike Fagan. In additions to his title at the Brunswick Euro Challenge, the Texan finished in the top 12 in all four PBA Tour majors (winner at the USBC Masters, runner-up at the U.S. Open, fourth place at the Tournament of Champions and twelfth place at the PBA World Championship).
Statically, Fagan had one of his best years ever. He finished second overall in scoring average and placed third in both total Tour points and earnings.
While I don't believe Fagan had quite as good of a season as Jason Belmonte (3 Tour titles, 7 top-5 finishes) or Norm Duke (3 Tour titles, moved into third place all-time in PBA Tour titles); there is no denying that Mike Fagan had an extremely successful 2011-12 season. Without question, Fagan is one of the top 5 bowlers in the world currently participating in the PBA.
As for whether he will win the Chris Schenkel Player of the Year award, voting for the award is already underway and the top three vote-getters will be announced on Wednesday, May 16.
The winner of the PBA Player of the Year award will be announced live on the PBA's Xtra Frame online bowling channel on Monday, May 28, during the PBA Summer Shootout at 10pin Bowling Lounge in Chicago.
Alex Wibholm is a bowling fan and loves to keep up with the PBA Tour on Sunday afternoons; especially after the NFL Seasons wrap up.
