Paulino hits disabled list again

Kansas City right-hander Felipe Paulino is on the disabled list for the second time this season and the fifth time since 2008.

Paulino, who began the season on the disabled list with a right forearm strain, returned Saturday to the disabled list with a strained right groin. He was activated April 30 and went 3-1 with a 1.67 ERA in seven starts.

Paulino, however, left in the first inning Wednesday with the groin injury, which he hurt while backing up third base against the Twins. The game began with Ben Revere lining one off Paulino's right thigh. He remained in the game, but three batters later departed with the groin pull. Manager Ned Yost said there was no correlation between the two.

Paulino did not make the weekend trip to Pittsburgh as he remained in Kansas City for further exams and treatment, when it became evident he would be unable to make a Tuesday start against the Brewers.

"We wanted to give him a couple days to see if he could get better," Yost said. "He wouldn't make his next start, and it would be doubtful if he could make the start after that."

Paulino has spent time on the disabled list every season since 2008, with the exception of last year. He pitched only 2/3 inning in 2008 because of a pinched nerve in his right arm. He also went on the disabled list in June 2009 with a right groin strain. Paulino missed 10 weeks in 2010 with shoulder tendinitis.
