Patty Mills came off the bench and had a quality performance, putting up 29 points on 13-26 shooting, including 1-5 on 3-point attempts. San Antonio also got solid performances from Danny Green with 16 points and 7 rebounds, and Tiago Splitter with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Damian Lillard had another strong performance for Portland despite the loss, scoring 31 points on 13-21 shooting (1-3 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 4-5 from the free throw line. Robin Lopez added 11 points and 14 rebounds and Thomas Robinson finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
The clash of top-tier defenses was won by San Antonio. They rank fourth in the NBA in defensive efficiency this season (115.22), and held Portland to just 1.04 points per possession.
Portland (36-18) has now lost three in a row.
Coming up, the Spurs square off with the Phoenix Suns, who are 32-21 on the season. The Trail Blazers match up with the Utah Jazz, currently sitting at 19-34 this year. The Spurs won their last two meetings with Phoenix. The Trail Blazers have come away with a win the last two games against Utah.
