Patriots WR Amendola may need surgery

New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola has torn adductor muscles in his hip and may need surgery, according to Fox Sports.

Earlier reports indicated that Amendola would miss two to six weeks with a sports hernia injury. The latest report that the injury is in the muscle that connects the pelvis and the thigh bone is slightly different but the timetable for recovery is the same.

However, Amendola could return in less than a month if he does not need surgery.

Amendola injured his groin in a preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Aug. 16. After missing the Patriots' final two preseason games, he aggravated the injury late in the second quarter of the regular-season opener last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. He had 10 catches for 104 yards.

The former St. Louis Rams receiver has a history of injuries, having missed 21 of the past 34 games.
