Veteran tight end Bo Scaife has signed with the New England Patriots, the team announced on Thursday.
Scaife worked for the New England last week. He spent the 2011 season with the Cincinnati Bengals, but wound up on injured reserve and did not play at all.
Prior to that, Scaife had been the franchise player for the Tennessee Titans in 2009 and, under the rules of the old CBA with an uncapped year, made nearly $5 million as a restricted free agent for Tennessee in 2010.
In addition to signing Scaife, the Patriots also released three players - defensive lineman Markell Carter, tight end Nick Melillo and offensive lineman Jon Opperud.
