The Patriots placed CB Ras-I Dowling on injured reserve for the second year in a row.
A thigh injury ended Dowling’s second season. He had appeared in all seven games this season and made seven tackles and one pass defensed.
As a rookie in 2011, Dowling started the first two games of the season before ending the year on I.R.
The way we see it
Dowling, a second-round pick in 2011, is living up to his scouting report that he is injury-prone. The Patriots hoped in the spring he would develop into a starting corner opposite Devin McCourty, but that didn’t pan out and he was playing in a reserve role.
The Pats’ secondary already was thin, and is struggling. Look for Sterling Moore and Marquice Cole to get more playing time.
