After eight seasons, OG Robert Gallery has decided to retire, the Patriots announced Saturday.
Gallery signed a one-year deal with New England this offseason after spending last season with the Seahawks. He spent seven of his eight NFL seasons with the Raiders, who made Gallery the second the second overall pick in the 2004 draft. He was billed as an elite left-tackle prospect after a highly decorated career at the University of Iowa. He did not live up to the hype, though, and the Raiders moved him from left tackle to guard after three seasons.
Gallery played in 104 games during his NFL career, starting in all but one of those games.
The Patriots also announced more roster moves Saturday. They signed DB Derrick Martin and RB Kareem Huggins, and FB Tony Fiammetta was placed on the exempt/left squad list.
Martin, who entered the league in 2006, spent last season with the Giants and appeared in 14 games. Huggins spent the 2009 and ’10 seasons with the Buccaneers but was out of the league last season.
