The Chad Ochocinco era is over in New England, as the Patriots released the veteran wide receiver on Thursday, according to ESPN.com.
According to Adam Schefter, the Patriots spent Thursday trying to deal the outgoing receiver, but found no takers.
After a producitve and often controversial career in Cincinnati that produced great individual numbers but spotty team success on the field, Ochocinco spent 2011 with the New England Patriots, but failed to make much of an impact on the AFC champions. He caught just 15 passes, and there were times when it appeared he and quarterback Tom Brady were unable to get on the same page in the offense.
Ochocinco, 34, took to Twitter to say thanks to the Patriots and the fan base in New England.
"Thoroughly enjoyed the oppurtunity to play for the "Patriot" organization... fans were f------ wicked awesome, I wish all of you the best...," Ochocinco tweeted.
