Patriots cut veterans Stallworth, Warren

The SportsXchange

The Patriots released defensive tackle Gerard Warren and wide receiver Donte' Stallworth on Monday before the 4 p.m. ET deadline to reduce rosters from 90 to 75.

Stallworth was one of many receivers to sign one-year deals with New England in the offseason, including Jabar Gaffney and Anthony Gonzalez. Gonzalez and Stallworth have been released. Gaffney and Brandon Lloyd, who signed a three-year, $12 million deal, are expected to stick on the 2012 roster along with Wes Welker and Deion Branch. The Patriots also added Jeremy Ebert in the seventh round of the 2012 draft in April.

Stallworth played for the Patriots in 2007. He played for three teams in the next four seasons, including Cleveland and Washington, and had five receptions for 61 yards in three preseason games.

Warren was released by the Patriots last September but returned to the team and contributed to a rotation on the defensive line.
