Pastner to agree to extension, stay put at Memphis

Memphis coach Josh Pastner has agreed on a contract extension to remain the head coach of the Tigers. Details of the extension are expected to be released Wednesday morning, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

"I love Memphis," Pastner said. "I love my president, Dr. Shirley Raines. I love my athletic director, Tom Bowen. I love Tiger Nation. And I love my team. My focus has always been on Memphis."

The 35-year-old Pastner had been rumored as a potential candidate for both the USC and the UCLA job. A source told CBSSports that USC actually contacted Pastner throught a third party to determine if he was interested in taking over

"I was never offered any job," said Pastner, who also was mentioned as a possible replacement for Tubby Smith in Minnesota.

The Tigers have made has made the NCAA Tournament three of the four seasons Pastner has been in Memphis since replacing John Calipari.

Pastner was named Conference-USA coach of the year this year as the Tigers compiled a 31-5 record. The Tigers won in the first round of this year's tournament but was eliminated by Michigan State.
