Parker pushes Spurs past Raptors in second OT

TORONTO -- The San Antonio Spurs can always count on Tony Parker and Tim Duncan when the going gets tough.

Parker scored seven of his 32 points in the second overtime, and Duncan made two key free throws in the same extra period as the Spurs defeated the Toronto Raptors 111-106 on Sunday before a crowd of 19,800 at Air Canada Centre.

"He's our closer," Duncan said of Parker. "He's been that way for the past couple of years. He steps up and makes big shots for us. That's the situation we kind of put him in and ask him to do, and he's delivered for us."

Parker also scored four points in the first overtime.

Duncan finished with 26 points, five rebounds and six assists, while Manu Ginobili added 15 points off the bench for the Spurs (11-3).

DeMar DeRozan led the Raptors (3-11) with 29 points. Jonas Valanciunas had 22 points for Toronto, and Kyle Lowry added 20.

"It was hard-fought game," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "Anybody could have won this thing. We made a couple of shots down the stretch, got a couple of stops. Toronto had a tough night shooting, and that was probably the biggest thing for them because in a lot of ways they played better than we did."

Parker said, "Toronto is a very good team; their record is very misleading. They played very tough. They have great players at every position and are well-balanced. We had to work hard for this one."

San Antonio's Danny Green, who finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, hit a 3-pointer on the first shot of the second overtime. DeRozan made one of two free throws with 3:10 to play, and Parker made an 18-foot pull-up jumper to give the Spurs a 102-98 lead with 2:56 to play.

Raptors center Andrea Bargnani, who was held to four points on 2-for-19 shooting, was fouled making a bank shot but missed his free throw, and San Antonio's lead remained 102-100.

"My shot was terrible," Bargnani said. "I don't think I've shot this bad in my NBA career. What can you do? You shoot, especially of it's an open shot, you've got to shoot because it's the right thing to do, so you shoot it. But it was definitely a bad night, maybe the worst."

Raptors coach Dwane Casey added, "You always hope for that next one. He had 34 the night before. ... Other players need to step up."

After Toronto was called for an inbounds violation, Ginobili scored for the Spurs, but Lowry erased that with his own field goal.

Parker put the Spurs into a four-point lead that DeRozan cut to two with a pair of free throws. Parker hit a pull-up jumper, and Duncan sank two free throws with 22.9 seconds left for a 110-104 lead.

"It was a multitude of things," Casey said. "We need production from guys other than DeMar. We just did not get it. But it was a multitude of things, giving the ball away. You need a razor-sharp focus. You cannot tip-toe around. Those are the marks of a young team. It is the mark of a team trying to find itself."

Duncan made the go-ahead basket with two minutes to play in the first overtime, and Parker made it a four-point lead on a driving layup after a Toronto turnover.

Lowry cut the lead to one with a 3-point shot, but Ginobili converted two free throws with 15.6 seconds to play. DeRozan again cut the lead to one with 13.9 seconds to play on a running dunk.

Gary Neal hit one of two from the foul line, and San Antonio led 97-95 with 13.4 seconds left in the first overtime. Toronto tied it in the final second on DeRozan's layup to force the second overtime.

Toronto took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter and had it up to three points with eight minutes to play in regulation. Parker tied it with a layup with 6:24 to play, and 40 seconds later Duncan made a tip shot to put the Spurs into an 81-79 lead.

Valanciunas and Lowry took turns tying the game for the Raptors, who regained the lead on a layup by Valanciunas off a feed from Jose Calderon with 2:56 to play in the fourth. Valanciunas made the resulting free throw to put Toronto's lead at 86-83.

Green missed a shot from the corner, but the Raptors couldn't take advantage of it, as Bargnani missed a 3-point try.

The Spurs bounced back and tied it on a 3-pointer by Ginobili, and after a DeRozan turnover, took the lead at 88-86 on a hook shot by Duncan with 1:28 left in the fourth.

After a foul by Ginobili with 24 seconds to play, Valanciunas hit both free throws to tie the game.

Parker missed a 28-foot jumper with one-tenth of a second showing on the clock. The Raptors called timeout, and Bargnani missed an 18-foot jumper to send the game into overtime.

Toronto scored the first seven points of the third quarter, which opened with the teams tied. Duncan interrupted the run with two free throws, but after DeRozan also hit two from the line with 7:29 to play in the quarter, Toronto led 60-51.

The Spurs kept the Raptors within contact and cut the lead to one point when Tiago Splitter made his free throw after scoring on a reverse layup with 1:29 left in the quarter.

Ginobili put the Spurts into a one-point lead on a driving dunk that followed a jump ball. But DeRozan hit a 7-foot driving bank shot after a San Antonio turnover that gave Toronto a 70-69 lead after three quarters.

Splitter missed two free throws with one second left in the second quarter, and Toronto missed on a long heave up the court at the buzzer to keep the score at 49-49 after the first half.

Parker led all first-half scorers with 14 points and had four assists, while Duncan added 12 first-half points. Lowry and Davis each scored 10 for Toronto in the first half. The Raptors led by as many as six points during the half before Parker scored six successive points to tie the game at 39-39.

The Raptors led 25-24 after the first quarter.

Duncan went down and was shaken up on a driving slam dunk by DeRozan midway through the first quarter. The Spurs star was rubbing his neck during the ensuing timeout but stayed in the game.
