Safety Reggie Smith has signed with the Panthers after spending his first four seasons with the 49ers. A third-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2008, Smith was a reserve in all 16 regular-season games last year and both of San Francisco's playoff games. He has started seven of 44 career regular-season games. "Reggie has been on our radar since the beginning of free agency and is a player we think can come in and compete at safety," said Panthers general manager Marty Hurney. "We brought him in for a visit Tuesday and it worked out. He is another player we've added to increase the competition."
