Veteran center Scott Gomez
signed a one-year contract with the Florida Panthers on Wednesday, the team announced.
Gomez, 33, played for the San Jose Sharks
last season after his contract was bought out by the Montreal Canadiens
. In 39 regular-season games with the Sharks, Gomez had two goals and 13 assists.
"Scott is a veteran center who adds further depth to the middle of our line-up," Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said. "He is a quick and skilled forward, with a wealth of hockey experience, including two Stanley Cup titles, who will be a leader for our younger players."
Gomez has played for the New Jersey Devils
(1999-2007), New York Rangers
(2007-2009), Canadiens (2009-2012) and Sharks. He has 171 career goals and ranks first among active U.S.-born players in assists (530) and points (701) and second in games played (941).
