Panthers release OT Otah

The Panthers terminated the contract of OT Jeff Otah, the team announced Thursday.

Otah, a first-round pick in 2008, played in only four games over the past two seasons because of knee injuries. He started 25 games in 2008 and ’09 and four last season.

The Panthers traded Otah to the Jets last week for a conditional draft pick, but the trade was voided after Otah failed his physical with the Jets. Panthers head coach Ron Rivera has said that Byron Bell will be the Panthers' starter at right tackle.

To take Otah’s place on the roster, the Panthers signed CB Nate Ness. Ness played in four games last season with the Rams and four — one with the Seahawks and three with the Dolphins — in ’10.
