The Florida Panthers fired head coach Kevin Dineen and assistant coaches Gord Murphy and Craig Ramsay on Friday, the team announced.

The Panthers are off to a 3-9-4 start to the season, and have gone seven games without a win.

General manager Dale Tallon met with the team after its 4-3 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, but was not ready to fire Dineen at that point.

The Panthers followed with a 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Thursday, leading to the coaches' dismissals.

"After 16 games it was clear that our team needed a change in philosophy and direction," Tallon said, according to NHL.com and the Miami Herald. "We have not met the expectations that we set forth at training camp and it is my responsibility to make the necessary changes to ensure that our club performs at its maximum potential."

Peter Horachek will serve as interim coach. He coaches the team's AHL affiliate in San Antonio. Previously, he was an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators.

San Antonio is 4-6-1 this season.

Dineen went 56-62-28 over parts of three seasons.

Florida visits the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
