The Panthers announced their first batch of cuts on the way to the deadline for a 53-man roster later Friday.

Among the players the team waived were WR Seyi Ajirotutu, who played 14 games for the team last season, and CB R.J. Stanford, who played 12 games last season.

Other cuts included: WR Jared Green, LB David Nixon, DT Ogemdi Nwagbuo, OT Matt Reynolds,  DL Ryan Van Bergen and LB Kion Wilson. Plus, the team waived/injured CB Darius Butler, a former second-round pick of the Patriots who started six games for Carolina last season, and undrafted rookie RB Tauren Poole.

The Panthers also traded an undisclosed draft choice to the 49ers in exchange for safety Colin Jones, a second-year player who played 13 games for the Niners last season.
