Panthers promote Shula to offensive coordinator

The Panthers made several moves Monday in order to reduce the active roster to 75 players, including the release of PK Olindo Mare.

The team also cut veteran P Nick Harris in favor of rookie sixth-rounder Brad Nortman. Justin Medlock is the only placekicker currently on the roster but with several veteran kickers available it's to be determined whether he will be the team's kicker Week One.

Also, the team placed WR David Gettis on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. He has been slowed by a hamstring injury and missed all of last season with a torn ACL. He is eligible to practice following the sixth week of the regular season, and the team will have three weeks to decide whether to activate him, waive him or place him on injured reserve.

Second-year CB Brandon Hogan was placed on injured reserve because of lingering knee problems.

The team also waived the following players: WR Darvin Adams, OG Roger Allen, WR Michael Avila, WR Brenton Bersin, OG Will Blackwell, DE Eric Norwood, RB Lyndon Rowells, TE Greg Smith, RB Josh Vaughan and WR Rico Wallace (injury settlement).
