The Panthers created two turnovers, allowed just 206 total yards and dismantled the unfortunate Buccaneers, 27-6, at home.
Cam Newton punished the Buccaneers for three scores (2 pass, 1 rush) on 18 of 29 passing for 263 yards and two picks. On the Buccaneers side, Mike Glennon did not have as good a day, going 14 of 21 with 180 yards passing, no touchdowns, one pick and one fumble.
Mike Tolbert ran for 48 yards on nine carries in addition to three receptions for 41 yards. Greg Olsen caught five balls for 85 yards.
The Carolina defense was the major reason for the victory, holding the Buccaneers to 66 yards rushing and 180 passing while coming away with one interception. They harassed Glennon and the Buccaneers offensive line with an imposing five sacks.
Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson contributed 75 receiving yards. Running back Bobby Rainey also had a good game with 63 rushing yards.
The Panthers travel to New Orleans next week to meet the Saints (9-2) while the Buccaneers are at home to take on the Bills (4-7).
