The Panthers placed WR Kealoha Pilares on injured reserve and activated WR David Gettis from the physically-unable-to-perform list.
Pilares suffered a right shoulder injury during a kickoff return in last Sunday’s win over the Redskins.
"It's unfortunate, but the timing actually works out," Panthers interim general manager Brandon Beane said, per the team website. "It's disappointing for Kealoha to have to be put down with the shoulder injury, but that's the nature of football, and it's the next man up. It gives David an opportunity to show us where he is and to see what he can do to help us."
Gettis has been practicing for the last three weeks after beginning the season on the PUP list. He missed all of the 2011 season with a torn ACL and was slowed by a hamstring injury suffered in OTAs in June. In 2010, Gettis had 37 receptions for 508 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie.
