Padres recall hard-throwing righty Cashner

The Padres recalled ight-handed pitcher Andrew Cashner from Double-A San Antonio and optioned right-hander Brad Brach to Triple-A Tucson.

Cashner, 25, was optioned to San Antonio on June 10 after his first start with the Padres in Milwaukee one day before. He made 27 relief appearances for the Padres this season, going 3-3 with a 3.81 ERA and 34 strikeouts and 18 walks in 28 games. In three starts for the Missions, he was 2-0 with a 1.88 ERA, 22 strikeouts and three walks. In three seasons, including two with the Chicago Cubs, Cashner is 5-9 with a 4.15 ERA in 88 games (two starts).

Brach, 26, was recalled from Tucson on May 4 for his second stint with the Padres this season. In two stints with the Padres, he's 0-1 with a 4.23 ERA, 31 strikeouts and 22 walks in 27 relief outings.

In seven outings for Tucson this season, Brach is 2-1 with a save and a 2.70 ERA.
