The San Diego Padres placed starting pitcher Jason Marquis on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
In a corresponding move, the club recalled right-handed relief pitcher Miles Mikolas from Class AAA Tucson.
The move to place Marquis on the DL is retroactive to Saturday. He was injured during his Friday start against the St. Louis Cardinals in which he went 5 1/3 innings and had no strikeouts. He is 9-5 with a 4.05 ERA this season.
Tyson Ross, who is 0-4 with a 3.60, will take Marquis' spot in the rotation, taking the mound Tuesday.
Mikolas is 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA and 20 saves for Tucson.
