Padres place Kotsay on disabled list

San Diego outfielder Mark Kotsay was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of a lower back strain. The move is retroactive to May 13.

The Padres recalled outfielder Blake Tekotte from Triple-A Tucson to take Kotsay's place.

Tekotte, 24, makes his second stint with the Padres this season. The outfielder was first recalled from Tucson on April 28 and played in five before being sent back down. In 28 games for Tucson this year, he has hit .283 (32-for-113) with 10 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 11 RBI. The left-handed hitter made his Big League debut for the Padres last season and has hit .162 (6-for-37) with a double, triple, RBI, run scored and three stolen bases in 24 Big League games played.

Kotsay, 36, has hit .294 (10-for-34) with two doubles, one home run, six RBI and four runs scored in 18 games played and eight games started for San Diego this season.
