Padres' Kotsay comes off disabled list

The SportsXchange

The San Diego Padres activated infielder/outfielder Mark Kotsay from the 15-day disabled list Monday and optioned right-hander Brad Brach to triple-A Tucson, the team announced.

Kotsay, 36, joined the Padres as a free agent from the Milwaukee Brewers and has yet to play in a regular-season game for San Diego. The 15-year major-league veteran was hitting .345 this spring for the Padres before he injured his right calf.

Kotsay batted .270 with 3 homers and 31 RBIs in 104 games with the Brewers last season. He is a career .278 hitter.

Burch, a 26-year-old right-hander who made the opening-day roster for the first time, had worked as a reliever in five games for the Padres, going 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA.
