Packers' Woodson will return Saturday

Green Bay Packers safety Charles Woodson will return to action for Saturday's playoff opener against the Minnesota Vikings after missing nine games due to a broken collarbone.

Woodson has practiced on a modified basis in recent weeks, though he didn't play again in the regular season after he was hurt Oct. 21 in the Packers' 30-20 road win over the St. Louis Rams. Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed after Tuesday's practice that Woodson would be ready to face the Vikings.

Over the season's first seven games, Woodson compiled 38 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, an interception and five passes defensed.

Second-year player M.D. Jennings has been starting in Woodson's absence.

Woodson won the 1997 Heisman Trophy, and he remains the last defensive player to capture the honor. The eight-time Pro Bowler in his 15th pro season out of Michigan, with the bulk of his career spent at cornerback before a move to safety.

In other Packers injury news, wide receiver/return specialist Randall Cobb is probable for Saturday after missing last week's game with an ankle injury. He participated in practice Tuesday.
