Rams place C Wells on new injured reserve

Updated 3:10 p.m. ET, Friday, March 23

Will the Packers end up missing C Scott Wells as much as they obviously missed fellow free-agent defector Cullen Jenkins on the other side of the ball in 2011? The consensus seems to be that the loss of Jenkins, who provided steady pressure on the right side of the D-line, was a more serious blow. As smart and steady as Wells was, word is the Packers feel quite confident that free-agent pickup Jeff Saturday, a five-time Pro Bowler, will be a more than adequate replacement. Saturday, who has played in all 16 regular-season games six of the past seven years, figures to have no problem signaling line adjustments after mastering that task in a Colts offense in which most of the plays were called at the line of scrimmage. He also figures to be an excellent fit in the locker room, offering guidance and leadership for younger linemen such as T.J. Lang, Marshall Newhouse and Bryan Bulaga.
