Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette notes that Rodgers will certainly be monitoring contract negotiations for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, who will attempt to cash in big following Super Bowl XLVII.
It is difficult to compare Flacco’s accomplishments to Rodgers at this point, but Flacco has been successful in the postseason and the more he gets, the more valuable Rodgers will be. Rodgers’ current deal averages only $9.3 million per season, per Dougherty, making him woefully underpaid in comparison to the elite quarterbacks in the NFL.
It’s that reason that Dougherty believes the Packers will be more likely to address the situation sooner, perhaps this offseason. Credit Rodgers for not making a big issue of his contract. Not at this point, anyway.
