Packers announce release of DB Woodson

Even if Nick Collins gets the OK in March to resume his career after having suffered a severe neck injury early this past season, we hear it's quite possible veteran CB Charles Woodson will switch to safety next season. Word is the team is unwilling to go through another year with Morgan Burnett and Charlie Peprah, who is considered a better fit in a reserve role, as the starting safeties, which could open the door at one safety spot for the 35-year-old Woodson. But even if that happens, team insiders tell us that it's important to note that Woodson will still continue playing 70 percent of the time in the slot, and that his overall role really would not change that much. In any event, it would be a big surprise if the Packers did not try to draft a long-term replacement for Collins, as well as at least a couple more cornerbacks to challenge Tramon Williams and Sam Shields, both of whom regressed significantly.
