Packers lose ILB Smith for the season

Packers ILB D.J. Smith will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury he suffered in Sunday night’s win over the Texans, Mike McCarthy said Monday.

The injury occurred on a hit from Houston OLT Duane Brown.

Smith replaced the injured Desmond Bishop as the Packers’ starter. In six games, he had 39 tackles, two sacks and four passes defensed. Brad Jones went in for Smith and had two tackles.

McCarthy also said that rookie OLB Nick Perry’s injury was “better than we thought it would be.” Earlier in the day, Green Bay placed RB Brandon Saine on injured reserve with a knee injury.
