Ovechkin listed as day to day

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is day to day with an upper-body injury, the team announced Wednesday.

Ovechkin missed practice on Wednesday after playing nearly 20 minutes on Monday night in the Capitals' 3-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.

Capitals coach Adam Oates would not provide specifics about the injury, but he did said Ovechkin was sore and that he did not have a concussion.

Oates is unsure whether Ovechkin would be ready in time for Friday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The 28-year-old Ovechkin is off to a great starter this season with 10 goals and five assists in 12 games.

Also on Wednesday, the Capitals announced the call-ups of Michael Latta and defenseman Dmitry Orlov from Hershey of the American Hockey League.
