OT Collins joins Buccaneers

The SportsXchange

Left tackle Anthony Collins signed a five-year, $30 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Collins will likely replace Donald Penn, who was cut Thursday, on the offensive line in Tampa after stepping in at tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals last season.

According to Pro Football Focus, Collins led the NFL in pass-blocking efficiency in 2013, allowing 12 pressures in 317 pass plays. The Carolina Panthers and Bengals made offers to Collins before he agreed to terms with the busy Buccaneers.

At 28, Collins has upside. He spent most of his time in Cincinnati as a backup to Pro Bowl left tackle Andrew Whitworth but stepped into a starting role last season with Whitworth kicked inside to guard.

The Buccaneers allowed 47 sacks last season.

Penn's release saves the Bucs $6.75 million. He had started every game for Tampa Bay over the last six seasons.
