Academy Awards: what time do the Oscars start, how can I watch it live and who are the nominees?

When are the 2017 Academy Awards?

 The 89th Academy Awards (that's this year's ceremony, for those who haven't been keeping count) will be held, as per tradition, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and take place this Sunday.

How can I watch them?

On Sunday (February 26), UK viewers will be able to watch live red carpet coverage on Sky Cinema from 11.30pm, hosted by presenter Alex Zane.

Coverage of the ceremony itself will begin at 1.30am.

Who is hosting this year's show?

US comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is to host the 2017 Oscars ceremony. Wish him luck:  the 49-year-old is a first-time host of the Academy Awards.

This year's show is being produced, also for for the first time, by Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd, who is the president of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's production company Pearl Street Films. 

Who are the nominees?

Best Picture

Best performance by an actor in a leading role

Best performance by an actor in a supporting role

Mahershala Ali - Moonlight, Jeff Bridges - Hell or High Water, Lucas Hedges - Manchester By The Sea, Dev Patel - Lion, Michael Shannon - Nocturnal Animals.

Best performance by an actress in a supporting role

Viola Davis (Fences), Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Nicole Kidman (Lion), Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures), Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea).

Best performance by an actress in a leading role

Isabelle Huppert (Elle), Ruth Negga (Loving), Emma Stone (La La Land), Natalie Portman (Jackie), Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins).

Who will present the awards?

Confirmed presenters include last year's four big acting winners: Leonardo DiCaprio (who'll be presenting the Best Sctress Award), Brie Larson (Best Actor), Mark Rylance (Best Supporting Actress) and Alicia Vikander (Best Supporting Actor).

Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway will present the award for Best Picture, and Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) will present the award for Best Song.

Samuel L. Jackson, Amy Adams, David Oyelowo, Emma Stone, Charlize Theron, Dakota Johnson, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Halle Berry, Jamie Dornan, Gael García Bernal, Shirley MacLaine, Kate McKinnon and Hailee Steinfeld will also be handing out awards on the night.
