Oscar De La Hoya Wants To Make Amends With Floyd Mayweather

It looks like one of sport’s oldest beefs is about to come to an end. Retired boxer Oscar De La Hoya had an interview with BoxingScene.com where he brought up his rival Floyd Mayweather’s name yet again, but for good reason.

Despite the boxers’ longtime feud, De La Hoya is ready to let bygones be bygones. “You know what, I’m gonna give it to you. I’m gonna give you an exclusive right now. Floyd, let’s bury the hatchet,” De La Hoya says. “I’m shaking, I’m getting a little teary eyed. Floyd, let’s bury the hatchet. We don’t have to be friends. We don’t have to be best friends, but let’s bury the hatchet for the sake of the sport.”

Following their last bout in 2007, the pair have engaged in heated exchanges, with De La Hoya praising Mayweather’s decision to retire from boxing stating the sport will be “a better one without” Mayweather’s presence. “Truth be told, I’m not unhappy to see you retire. Neither are a lot of boxing fans. Scratch that. MOST boxing fans,” De La Hoya said in an interview with Playboy. “Why? Because the fight game will be a better one without you in it.”

Only time will tell if Mayweather decides to respond to De La Hoya’s peace offering.
