Drew Brees had a big night throwing the ball, paving the way to a good win for the Saints over the Panthers, 31-13, at home.
A terrific performance from Brees included four touchdowns on 30 of 42 passing for 313 yards and no interceptions. Cam Newton went 22 of 34 with 160 yards passing, one touchdown and no interceptions for the Panthers.
Darren Sproles ran for 38 yards on one carries in addition to three receptions for 23 yards. Marques Colston was a weapon for the offense, catching nine passes for 125 yards with two touchdowns.
The New Orleans defense was the major reason for the victory, giving up 128 yards rushing and 160 passing. They harassed Newton and the Panthers offensive line with an imposing five sacks.
Panthers tight end Greg Olsen had a big day with 40 receiving yards. Wide receiver Steve Smith also had a noteworthy performance with 49 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The Saints head to St. Louis next week to face off with the Rams (5-8) while the Panthers will play host to the Jets (6-7).
