Drew Brees had a big day through the air, leading the way to a close victory for the Saints against the 49ers, 23-20, at home.
Brees had a respectable 30 of 43 performance with 305 yards passing, one touchdown and one pick. In comparison, Colin Kaepernick went 17 of 31 with 127 yards passing, two touchdowns and one pick for the 49ers.
Pierre Thomas rushed for 49 yards on 11 carries in addition to five receptions for 35 yards. Jimmy Graham pulled in six balls for 41 yards.
The New Orleans defense was the major reason for the victory, limiting the 49ers to 81 yards rushing and 127 passing while coming up with one interception. They brought down Kaepernick for three sacks.
Lastly, Garrett Hartley was perfect, hitting all three of the field goals he attempted.
49ers tight end Vernon Davis totaled 33 receiving yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Anquan Boldin also had a good game with 56 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Next week, the Saints travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons (2-8) while the 49ers go to Landover to play the Redskins (3-7).
