New Orleans Lands WWE Elimination Chamber Pay-per-view in 2013

    WWE Elimination Chamber

Elimination Chamber is one of the WWE's most important pay-per-views as it is the last such event prior to Wrestlemania. Also, the Elimination Chamber concept is one of the most innovative events in the WWE and is a favorite of wrestling fans. The next Elimination Chamber pay-per-view will be in New Orleans on February 17, 2013.

    New Orleans

As a New Orleans resident and diehard wrestling fan, the announcement that the next WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view will take place in my hometown is exciting news. I have attended NWA, WCW, ECW and WWE wrestling shows and I even take in the occasional indy show.

In the early 1980s, New Orleans set attendance records for wrestling events in the Superdome. Back then, Mid-South Wrestling dominated the wrestling landscape in New Orleans as fans were fanatical over the likes of the Junkyard Dog, Ted DiBiase and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan.

Today, most WWE television tapings and pay-per-views in New Orleans are well-attended but rarely sell out. I always spend the early part of each show looking at the upper level of the New Orleans Arena hoping that walk up sales make holding pay-per-views like Elimination Chamber in the Big Easy worth the WWE's while.

    Wrestlemania

The day I keep waiting for is when the WWE announces it will be holding Wrestlemania in New Orleans. As the city that hosts more major sporting events than any other, I can't understand why the WWE has yet to book Wrestlemania in the Superdome.

If New Orleans wants to host Wrestlemania, we all need to get out and support the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Because of our reputation as a party city, I'm sure New Orleans will always be a WWE destination. However, we need to show we can get more than 10,000 people at a pay-per-view if we ever hope to land Wrestlemania.

February 17, 2013 could be a great time in New Orleans. Besides the WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, we'll just be getting over Mardi Gras. More importantly, we could also still be celebrating the New Orleans Saints winning the Super Bowl in the Superdome!

Patrick's favorite wrestling organization was Mid-South Wrestling back in the 1980s.Patrick's favorite wrestling angle of all-time was the NWO and his favorite wrestler was Roddy Piper.
