Buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

Orioles' Thome, Hammel out until September

The injury updates were aplenty for the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, and none of them were all that encouraging.

Jim Thome and Jason Hammel aren't expected back until September -- meaning the club will need more starts like Chris Tillman's outing Monday, and more homers from guys like Nick Markakis.

Thome said Monday that he may be sidelined for longer, as he'll go the next 30 days without baseball activity. He is attempting to overcome a herniated neck disk.

Hammel may be back on a mound within two weeks. For now, he's just working on throwing on flat ground as he comes back from arthroscopic knee surgery performed July 16.

In other medical news, Nick Johnson remains on the 60-day disabled list with a wrist injury that hasn't shown much improvement. There is a chance that the veteran may not return this season.

As for right-hander Stu Pomeranz, he was scheduled to work out Monday in Sarasota, Fla., but he didn't throw because of discomfort in his leg related to a back injury, MASNsports.com reported. Pomeranz went on the disabled list in late May due to a pulled side muscle.

The return of any of the veterans would be viewed by the Orioles like a late-season trade acquisition. In the meantime, the remaining crew scored three runs in the second inning Monday and held on for a 3-1 win over the Seattle Mariners.
