Orioles prospect Bundy shut down with elbow tightness
Baltimore Orioles top pitching prospect Dylan Bundy was shut down after experiencing mild elbow tightness in his right arm.
"He's going to rest it for a few more days until it goes away, and we expect that to be in a couple of days and then at that point he would resume his throwing," Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette told the Baltimore Sun. "He's had some tightness for a couple of days. I think it came to light last week."
An MRI revealed muscle tightness in the elbow area.
Bundy's availability for the beginning of the season at Class AA Bowie is not certain. His first start of the season has not been scheduled.
"We're just being cautious to shut him down until the muscle tightness goes away," Orioles director of player development Brian Graham told the Sun. "He'll start back with a throwing program and evaluate it from there. We really don't know what day he's going to pitch. It's all based on how he feels when he's throwing again."
Bundy, 20, is considered a consensus top three prospect. He went 9-3 with a 2.08 ERA in 23 minor league starts last year. He also made two relief appearances for Baltimore late last year.
