Orioles 8, Angels 4

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Baltimore Orioles got home runs from J.J. Hardy and Manny Machado and another serviceable performance from starter Jason Hammel to claim an 8-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels Sunday afternoon at Angel Stadium.

Machado's two-run home run off Angels starter Jerome Williams in the fifth inning gave the Orioles a 5-4 lead, and ultimately their third win in the four-game series. The Orioles went 7-4 on the 11-game trip to Oakland, Seattle and Anaheim.

Hammel wasn't great, giving up four runs in the first four innings, including a home run to Mike Trout. But he managed to get through six innings and improved to 5-1. Only Boston's Clay Buchholz (six) has more wins this season in the American League, and Hammel can thank an Orioles offense that has averaged 6.7 runs per game in his seven starts.

After the Angels scored three runs on four hits in the first inning for a 3-1 lead, Hardy tied the game at 3 with a two-run homer in the fourth off Williams. Trout's home run in the bottom of the fourth gave the Angels the lead again, but only temporarily. Machado hit a home run with Nate McLouth on base to put the Orioles up for good at 5-4. Williams (1-1), who moved from the bullpen to make his first start of the season, gave up five runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings.

At 11-20, the Angels have equaled their worst start through 31 games in franchise history, matched by the 1990 club.

The Orioles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Williams on Adam Jones' RBI double, but the Angels responded with three runs in their half of the first against Hammel. The Angels had four hits and two walks in the inning, including RBI singles by Alberto Callaspo, Howie Kendrick and Hank Conger.

The Orioles tied the game in the fourth inning when Williams left an 89-mph fastball up to Hardy, who hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 3. Trout untied the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning, his fifth of the season.

Williams was victimized by the home run ball again in the fifth, this time Machado going deep for a two-run homer to five the Orioles a 5-4 lead. After Williams walked the next hitter, Nick Markakis, he was finished for the day -- 4 1/3 innings, five runs, four hits.
