Orioles 4, White Sox 0
BALTIMORE - Starting pitcher Scott Feldman, traded by the Chicago Cubs in July, had his best outing as an Oriole on Friday.
He pitched a complete-game shutout as Baltimore beat the Chicago White Sox 4-0, extending Chicago's losing streak to eight games.
Chris Davis and Matt Wieters hit back-to-back homers in the sixth to give the Orioles a 4-0 lead against Chicago starter John Danks (4-12).
Davis lined his major-league-leading 48th homer of the year down the right-field line on a 2-2 pitch, and Wieters went deep to right-center on a 1-0 offering for his 21st homer of the season.
Feldman (5-4) made his 11th start for the Orioles, and for the first time did not allow a run. He took the mound to start the ninth and retired Gordon Beckham on a liner to second, got Jeff Keppinger on a liner to right and retired Adam Dunn on a fly to center to end his five-hit masterpiece.
Feldman gave up seven runs in his first outing at Camden Yards for Baltimore on July 8 against Texas but gave up just one in five innings Aug. 25 against Oakland in his previous start at home.
All of the breaks went the Orioles' way, including a close play at the plate in the top of the fourth. Also, second baseman Brian Roberts ended the top of the seventh when he threw out Dayan Viciedo after Viciedo's ball hit the second base bag and popped up to Roberts, who fired to first baseman Davis to retire a stunned Viciedo.
Danks gave up four runs and three homers in 5 1/3 innings while striking out four and walking one. The Orioles (75-65) now have a league-best 191 homers this year, while the White Sox (56-84) are 24-50 on the road, the second-worst mark in the majors behind the Marlins.
Danny Valencia, who homered in the third to make it 1-0, gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead in the fifth when he beat out an infield single as J.J. Hardy scored from third.
Danks retired the first eight batters before No. 9 hitter Valencia hit a solo homer to left in the third. It was the seventh homer of the season for Valencia, and five of those have put the Orioles ahead.
Chicago had a chance to tie the game in the fourth, but Jeff Keppinger was thrown out at the plate on a single to center by Paul Konerko. Keppinger argued the call with home plate umpire John Hirschbeck, and television replays appeared to back up Keppinger's claim that he was safe.
The Orioles began the day three games back of Tampa Bay for the second Wild Card spot in the American League.
NOTES: White Sox RHP Ramon Troncoso was activated from the 15-day disabled list. He had been on the DL since August 17 with pericarditis, which is inflammation of the tissue around the heart. He was 1-4 with a 5.25 ERA in his first 25 outings out of the bullpen this season for the White Sox ... Baltimore OF Chris Dickerson had his contract selected from Triple-A Norfolk of the International League prior to Friday's game, and INF Alex Liddi was designated for assignment. Dickerson, 31, batted .245 in 46 games earlier this season for the Orioles. Liddi, 25, hit .222 in 49 games for Norfolk after he was picked up from Seattle on July 6 by Baltimore ... The White Sox entered the game with 15 losses in their last 24 games at Camden Yards ... Adam Jones drove in his 100th run of the season Thursday as he joined Chris Davis in that 100-RBI club. It is the first time in five years two Baltimore players had at least 100 RBIs in the same season. Aubrey Huff (108) and Melvin Mora (104) did it in 2008.
