CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon State's Jace Fry pitched the fifth no-hitter in school history, striking out a career-high 10 in a 2-0 victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday.
The junior left-hander from Beaverton, Ore., allowed only two baserunners, on walks in the fifth and ninth innings, and threw 99 pitches in his second career shutout. Fry (3-0) recorded Oregon State's first no-hitter since Josh Osich tossed one at UCLA on April 30, 2011.
The game, the opener of a doubleheader sweep by the Beavers (13-3), was the fastest in Goss Stadium history, taking just 1 hour, 46 minutes to complete.
Brandon Mallder came closest to getting a hit for the Huskies (1-11-1) when he led off the seventh with a higher hopper past the mound that second baseman Andy Peterson charged, gloved and threw across his body to nip Mallder by a step.
