Following the Redskins' 33-31 loss to the Bears Saturday night, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said OLB Brian Orakpo and SS Brandon Meriweather would undergo MRIs after leaving the game with injuries.
Orakpo was forced to the sideline in the first quarter with a left shoulder injury after attempting a tackle on Bears WR Devin Hester. The two-time Pro Bowler had surgery on that same shoulder this past offseason after suffering a partially torn left pectoral muscle last season.
According to the Twitter of Mark Maske of the Washington Post, Orakpo's agent, Ben Dogra, called Orakpo's injury "nothing serious at all" and added that "He will be ready for the opener."
Meriweather also was injured in the first quarter, departing after suffering a leg injury on Michael Bush's eight-yard TD run. He hobbled off the field and was replaced in the lineup by Tanard Jackson.
A report from the Washington Post also said Meriweather's MRI showed no significant damage to his left knee.
