A's option Milone to Class AAA

The Oakland A's optioned left-handed starter Tommy Milone to Class AAA Sacramento on Saturday.

Milone struggled Friday night in taking an 8-3 loss against the Texas Rangers. His record fell to 9-9 and ERA dropped to 4.39 on the season after he allowed nine hits and six earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings.

The club called up right-handed reliever Evan Scribner to take Milone's roster spot.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the A's do not need a fifth starter until Aug. 13. By then, Milone could be called up or Sonny Gray could take the spot. Also, Brett Anderson is beginning a minor league rehab assignment shortly as he recovers from a stress fracture in his foot.
