The Edmonton Oilers acquired forward Jerred Smithson on Wednesday before the NHL trade deadline from the Florida Panthers for a fourth-round draft pick, TSN reported.
Smithson has two goals and three assists and has won 54.8 percent of 363 faceoffs in 35 games this season.
The 34-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He is in the final year of a two-year deal. His salary counts $800,000 against the cap.
A majority of Smithson's 578 career games came with the Nashville Predators. He was traded close to the trade deadline a year ago to Florida.
Known as a physical defensive forward at 6 feet 3, 209 pounds, Smithson has never had more than 16 points in a season.
