Ohio State's Hyde won't face charges

Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde will not be charged in the alleged assault last month that led to his suspension from the Buckeyes' football team last week.

Hyde, who rushed for 970 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2012, was barred from team activities by coach Urban Meyer on July 22. On Tuesday, Meyer announced that Hyde would be suspended for at least the first three games of the 2013 season -- home games against Buffalo and San Diego State and a road game against Cal.

In a statement, Meyer wrote that Hyde engaged in "conduct not representative of this football program or this university. He will be required to fulfill additional obligations before he is allowed to play in a game."

Columbus police closed their investigation Tuesday into the July 20 incident in which a 19-year-old woman was the alleged victim. She declined to press charges.

She wrote in a statement released to a Columbus television station, "Keeping in mind what is for me and my family I have decided to refrain from filing charges at this time. Some of the media has rushed to judgment regarding the incident to ensure they are the first to report the information, whether it be factual or false. This has been overwhelming, frustrating and disappointing. It is unimaginable to be exposed to these false reports, claims and rumors and for anticipated 4 months expected to bring this incident to a conclusion."
