Ohio State dismisses Klein from football team

Linebacker Storm Klein, who pled not guilty to misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and assault in an Ohio court Saturday morning, was dismissed from the Ohio State football team that night, the school announced.

"The charges filed against Storm Klein violate the core values of the Ohio State Football Program," Buckeyes first-year coach Urban Meyer said in a statement. "As a result, Storm has been removed from the team. It has been made very clear that this type of charge will result in dismissal. If there are any changes in the charges, we will re-evaluate his status."

He was the third Buckeyes player to be arrested recently.

Klein spent the night in jail and was represented by a public defender at his arraignment at Franklin County Municipal Court, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Klein was ordered to stay away from the unnamed complainant, not to consume alcohol or drugs and not be caught possessing firearms, per his bond conditions.

Senior tight end Jake Stoneburner and junior left tackle Jack Mewhort recently had their scholarships pulled by Meyer for at least the summer after they were charged with misdemeanor offenses late in the spring.

Klein started 10 games last year and was expected to compete for the starting job at middle linebacker this season. His participation in spring drills was limited by minor injuries.
